IT MANAGED SERVICES & SOLUTIONS

Optimizing the Mobile Business Environment

Nowadays, when employees survey the tools they have to do their jobs effectively, they not only use a laptop or a desktop computer, they’re accessing a mobile phone, a tablet or hybrid device for business purposes. They likely use a number of peripherals as well, such as a Bluetooth keyboard or separate docking stations for multiple devices. Some of these devices, and the software and apps on them, may be requisitioned by their company and some may be bought and programmed by the employee, or BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Regardless of who owns what, all end users expect all of their devices to work and play well with others.

You don't have to search hard to find an article about mobile apps and mobile for business. Whether checking email, accessing company data, searching online or shopping, people no longer want to turn on their PC, they want to be able to do most everything through their mobile phone or tablet. Mobility is connecting to infrastructure, a network, data center or application. How this gets standardized, regulated and organized for business purposes will allow end users to access the right function on their phone to execute any transaction while protecting their company and its data in the process.

Next Level of Service Desk

Even the service desk is integrating real-time, first-level, multi-channel support of any device as part of what we call, “intelligent service desk evolution”. Service desk analysts need to be empowered with troubleshooting techniques that help an end user through any issue regardless of what device they’re working from. The service desk needs to be able to understand the context, implement remediation and add the solutions to the knowledge base as applicable.

Mobility and the Cloud

MobileMash-MiddleWhen the cloud is combined with mobility, the different choices that a user has to provision, use and pay for services increases exponentially, providing the enormous benefit of flexibility. From a business perspective, new processes and models can now be created, accessing things users never had access to before. When we talk about the digital enterprise, we talk about that confluence of mobility and cloud, and how the office of the CIO aligns with the business user to provide those choices in a safe, reliable and cost-effective manner.

BYOD adds another layer of complexity to the optimized user experience. Is the strategy a mix of BYOD and corporate-liable devices? Should there be a pull-back from BYOD and a focus on corporate-liable in certain areas? Do we have a mix of Apple-, Microsoft- and Android-based devices in our environment and what applications are each used for?

Organizations that leverage an optimized mobile environment increase worker productivity, collaboration and decision-making and improve their market agility, which in turn drives loyalty in their customers. As the ability to become mobile becomes more pervasive, complex and mission-critical, business leaders will look at their mobile landscapes and determine what kind of strategy will best serve them in terms of security, data protection and productivity. They will benefit from a complete mobility lifecycle management strategy, and partner with a managed service provider that can act as a one-stop-mobility-shop.
